Zebra Striped Cookies
From Betty Crocker's ABC cookbook
3 c. flour1 c. sugar
2/3 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 c. margarine/butter softened
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1/4 c. cocoa
Mix flour, sugars, vanilla, salt and egg. Divide dough in half. Mix cocoa into one half. Pat/roll each half into a 9 inch square. Cut each square into 3 inch strips. Cut strips crosswise into halves. Using spatula, lift one brown half onto plastic wrap. Follow with white, then another brown. Repeat, alternating colors, creating bar with 6 layers. Wrap with plastic wrap and put in refrigerator. Do the same with remaining dough, creating another 6 layer bar and place in refrigerator. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Slice refrigerated dough into thin cookies. (I use thread to slice the cookies. Take a long piece of thread and place under the edge of the dough. Wrap thread around the dough and cross the thread on top. Pull thread ends opposite directions and it will slice through the dough.) Bake 375 degrees for 8-10 min.
